Parents' Association

The UHS Parents' Association meets monthly at the school. Membership is open to all UHS parents, and you are warmly encouraged to be a part of this association which involves itself in school activities ranging from discussions about policy and directions, through to fundraising, with a bit of socialising thrown in.

The P.A. is also a communication channel, assisting in the exchange of information and ideas between parents and the school's administration. A representative usually attends School Council meetings and reports back to the Parents' Association on Council matters. Often the Principal, Council President, or others from Council attend our meetings to discuss matters, clarify points, and listen to the points of view expressed by parents.

It is the intention of the current P.A. to not only inform the parent community of our areas of interest and activities, but also to encourage and invite all parents to become involved with this part of the U.H.S. school community. As well as having a great deal of affection for the school, the parents of University High students possess a wealth of skills, knowledge, resources and interests.

Once again we invite and encourage you to attend the next meeting of the U.H.S. Parents' Association. Meetings are held monthly every second Tuesday at 7:30pm in the Staff Common Room, Original (North) Building. Check the school website for details. For inquiries please contact Diane Murray.

Further PA information

The UHS PA is a service organisation of the school. It has several important roles including:

Fundraising

Parents’ Association raffle: The annual raffle is the PA’s largest fundraiser for the year.  This usually occurs mid-way through the year. All administration of the raffle is done from the school office. A decision re: how to spend the money raised is made by the PA in association with the school.
Landmark: Sell our donated second-hand books in return for a commission paid to UHS.

Funding of programs

Centenary year 2010 UHS: The PA committed to fund every enrolled student  in 2010 with a magnificent Centenary book in the auspicious centenary year of the University High school.
Valedictory evening: The Parents Association supports graduating Year 12 students through Award sponsorship. Sponsorship  is awarded to students in a particular field of study for outstanding achievement.
Breakfast Club: On a weekly basis to promote good eating and a healthy start to the day.

Advocacy/Involvement

Like all parents in the school community, the PA is represented on School Council through the elected parent members.

Support for school functions

The PA has provided volunteer support at a variety of school functions. This has included: ticket collection and refreshments at the music evenings and school productions; representation and providing refreshments at a variety of events such as Parent/teacher evenings, welcome evening for new parents, Art Exhibition, and morning teas for new parents.
