Acceleration Program Year 7 details
Application for the Acceleration Program for Year 7 in 2020
This is a special program for gifted and talented students. Admission to this program is at the Year 7 level only, and is based on the Department of Education enrolment guidelines and a selection process involving a series of tests and interviews. The Acceleration Program, which began in 1981, is an integral element of the School’s culture and community.
Students in the program join fully in the life of the School. The University High School offers a rich music program, an extensive extra-curricular program (including school productions, debating, clubs, student leadership groups, many sporting opportunities and more) and is also noted for its strength in English, Mathematics, Sciences, and Languages.
Languages offered are French, German and Latin. Participants’ families represent a cross-section of economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Parents are strongly supportive of the Program, reporting great pleasure at their children’s intellectual and social development.

Offers for placement of gifted and talented Year 6 children in the Year 7 Acceleration Program are based on the same priority order as the Department of Education Enrolment guidelines, aptitude tests and interviews. Interviews are conducted with short-listed applicants. All students who apply will be required to sit an aptitude test (via Edutest) on Saturday 9 May, 2020.
Parents will be notified of the outcome of their application to the Year 7 Acceleration Program at the same time as the Primary Schools inform all of the year 6 students of their Secondary School placement offer for 2021.
